SpringHill Suites Albuquerque University Area occupies the gateway location to the new pedestrian-friendly Highlands District in University Area. Fronting onto the Old Route 66 - now Central Avenue, the architecture reinterpreted the visual language of highway structures to capture the sense of movement and adventure. The hotel was programmed to accommodate extended stays for patients and families who were seeking care from the Presbyterian Hospital across Central Avenue. It has the first purpose-built Ronald McDonald House in a hotel on its third floor - the landing floor to a pedestrian bridge from the Hospital - to provide a very affordable lodging for families seeking treatment for their child, to be a place for patients and their siblings to be kids, a place that offers respite from illness, a place for families to share their stories and find comfort in each other and, ultimately, a place that offers normalcy in the lives of hundreds of New Mexico families. Its Roof Terrace on the sixth floor offers one of the best elevated viewpoints of the city and surrounding mountains.
