This residence redefines suburban Westlake, Texas living as a daily retreat, transforming ordinary domestic routines into the experience of an immersive resort. Designed for a young family with diverse passions—automotive design, social entertaining, restorative living, and technology—the home orchestrates water, light, materials, fragrance, and sound to create a private, multisensory sanctuary.

At its core, the residence is a courtyard house. The courtyard topography is intentionally carved into the flat site to create a tiered biopool environment. Each tier serves a distinct intention: the upper pool is shallow and ideal for lounging, with chaise lounges partially submerged in water; the middle pool hosts a dramatic sunken seating area with a fire pit, creating intimate spaces for conversation and reflection; the lower pool incorporates a swim-up bar, seamlessly linking the indoor bar and entertainment spaces with the outdoor realm. The cascading water produces a continuous, soothing soundscape while the natural filtration of the biopool creates a healthy ecosystem, enhancing the sense of living within a private oasis.

The surrounding volumes are carefully oriented to shield views of neighboring houses, cultivating complete privacy and reinforcing the sense of retreat. Within this envelope, the home engages all senses: the seasonal fragrance of plants along the pool edges, the tactile warmth of locally sourced stone and timber, and the refined touch of crafted metal elements combine to create spaces that are visually rich and deeply tactile.

We're excited about advancing this project in 2026. We envisioned The Library at Rivulet as a civic anchor within a 90-acre mixed-use community which we master-planned in Southern Dallas. Directly across from the @untdallas and within the city’s Education Corridor, the library serves a historically underserved, predominantly African American community alongside students, faculty, and staff from nearby institutions.

Rivulet's master plan is rooted in a vision of inclusive, sustainable growth for an area that has experienced decades of underinvestment. With a mix of housing, retail, offices, and civic uses, the development is intended to bring long-needed amenities, economic opportunity, and public space to South Dallas while strengthening neighborhood identity and pride.

The library plays a central role in providing an equitable, welcoming place for learning, gathering, and access to resources that support educational advancement and workforce readiness. The 20,000 SF program extends beyond books to provide free access to technology, high-speed internet, digital resources, and collaborative spaces.

Sited on the embankment of the natural Ricketts Branch Creek that bisects Rivulet, the library is accessible from the creek's trail system as well as the adjacent commercial and residential neighborhoods, strategically positioning the program as a respite from activities during a day spent at Rivulet. From inside building, natural vistas of the creek and the woods can be reflectively appreciated through apertures of varying sizes and configurations.

The original Maple Terrace Apartments, designed by famed English architect Sir Alfred Bossom in 1925 as Dallas’s first luxury high-rise residential tower and a cultural landmark in the city, served as the centerpiece of a new remixed-use destination in Uptown Dallas. At one time the tallest residential building in Dallas, Maple Terrace was in its time a premier address, accommodating visitors like Judy Garland, Dean Martin, Elvis Presley, and Zsa Zsa Gabor.

Our new entertainment and hospitality center along Main Street honors this Oklahoma town's Osage roots and historic architecture with warm brick cladding and a dynamic chainmail metal screen that moves with the prairie wind. A restored 1930s gas station now thrives as a restaurant and bar, blending history with contemporary life. Above the outdoor dining area, a pergola of woven fabric ribbons featuring Native American motifs casts beautiful patterns of light and shadow, celebrating local artistry. Thoughtfully designed with sustainability in mind, the project reflects the town's ongoing renaissance as a vibrant place to gather, create, and connect.

The Welcome Pavilion is featured in Architectural Record. One of two buildings designed by 5G Studio Collaborative, the pavilion welcomes all visitors at the gateway to Walmart's new Home Office Campus in Bentonville. The sprawling campus features Gensler-designed 2.4 million square feet of offices which are predominately built with mass timber and numerous other structures and sets a new standard in workplace environmental design.

The campus' SWA-designed "Big Nature" landscape dissolves the boundaries between manmade structures and the surrounding landscapes with 115 acres of native and adaptive plantings, 13 acres of lakes and bioswales, and a one-mile-long forested greenway.

We've been called a lot of fun things by our clients, among which is Design Jedis 😁

We received a call from China and accepted the assignment to redesign three buildings for a new ski resort village in Chongli. Arriving on the site a few weeks later, we learned that we were not being asked to redesign the concepts for the buildings but rather to redesign the buildings that were halfway through construction.

We stationed a team of four designers in Beijing for four months and, well, get the designs fixed . . . while adapting to the constraints and ways of doing construction in China.

Our interest in crafting distinctive material assemblies requires iterative mock-up reviews: to trouble-shoot technical conditions, to verify scale and aesthetic intent, to test their environmental behavior, and to feel the resultant emotive quality. This mock-up was built for a 200-room boutique hotel in Plano, Texas.

Our interest in crafting distinctive material assemblies requires iterative mock-up reviews: to trouble-shoot technical conditions, to verify scale and aesthetic intent, to test their environmental behavior, and to feel the resultant emotive quality. This mock-up was built for a 200-room boutique hotel in Plano, Texas.

We won the 2024 Preservation Dallas’ 25th Annual Preservation Achievement Awards for The Drakestone!

As we continue to strategically expand our Adaptive Reuse portfolio involving historically significant buildings, this award represents our second Preservation Achievement Awards for projects in Dallas.

The Drakestone was designed by C.D. Hill and Company and was originally constructed in 1926 as the headquarters of Republic National Bank. It was the second tallest building in Dallas at that time, and a 1931 addition made it the largest office building in Texas. The original building with its 1931 extension is perceived as one building with a “Western Victorian” aesthetic, and it forms part of a core group of historic buildings within this area of downtown from a time when Dallas was emerging as a major city.

In its transformation into The Drakestone, the building has been revitalized internally to create an elevated experience for its users and externally to contribute to the vibrant urban life of downtown Dallas. In addition to upgrading the retail space and modernizing the building’s 183 residential units and amenities, a project goal was to transform the lobby into a public space for art experience in a residential building, melding the original building features with completely new design elements, creating an apropos fusion of historic and modern that encompasses the building’s nearly 100-year span. Interior work was extensive at the lobby, retail spaces, residential units, and amenities. The original cupola, which was in a serious state of disrepair, had to be completely rebuilt using Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) panels. Around it, the rooftop deck was provided with a new, modern swimming pool and a greenhouse conservatory for the residents' lounge. Below it, a private dining room was carved into the found space within the existing foundation for the cupola.

An interesting assignment where we sent a design team to China to completely redesign three hotels which, as we learned upon arrival, were already under construction up to their third floors. We were practically an architectural special ops.
