Graha Residence Tower
Surabaya, Indonesia
34-story, 280-unit, condominium over 294-car parking podium
Located centrally in a residential a commercial masterplan in Surabaya, Graha Residence Park acts as an anchoring point in the design for a new urban center. Drawn from the sharp angles and expressive view corridors of the masterplan, the towers are oriented for striking views of the promenade. The organic form acts as a counterpoint to the hard corners usually found in high rise residential architecture while still retaining the logic and functionality of rigid design. The vertical structure apparent on the exterior of the towers gracefully merges together where it meets the ground to allow for more transparency and opening for the retail and public spaces located on the ground floor. This exoskeleton serves as a framework for the variable floorplates, allowing the towers to appear as singular forms anchored to the promenade. In order to provide passive ventilation throughout the building, the units have deliberately positioned panels of horizontal glass louvers that can be opened or closed according to the wishes of the occupants. Combined with the organic form of the towers, this allows every unit to have a unique combination of smooth glass curtain wall and operable envelope.
