Skirting the edge of Edison State College's campus is a brand new building: Lighthouse Commons.
"I was bummed we didn't have housing when I first started here," said Resident Assistant Dianelis Martin. "Then I found out we would. It's a miracle."
After one year commuting from Lehigh Acres - she's ready to move in.
"It's such a hassle," she said. "I couldn't join a lot of things or go to meetings or activities planned. Now I live here!"
The first floor of the building features a fitness room and common area. But students are learning there's much more to it than that.
"This is going to be a green building so we're going to emphasize recycling portion of that," said Project Manager Jesse Olvsolvsky. "We paved and are putting sand down for volleyball and basketball."
250 students have already signed up to stay on campus. The building can accommodate 400.
The rooms rent starting at $3000 per student, per semester.
Keys to the door will be handed out in August when construction wraps.
